The importance of the Hispanic community in the United States and Colorado:

 

  • The 2010 U.S. Census reports the Hispanic population has surpassed 50 million and accounted for more than half of the 27.3 million population increase in the last decade. It is 16.3% of the US population.

  • In the state of Colorado, 21% of the state population is Latino, over 1 million in Colorado.

  • 607,694 Hispanics in the seven-county metro area, making up 22% of the total population.

  • 1 of 6 people in the U.S. is Latino.

  • U.S. has the world’s second-largest Spanish-speaking population.

  • Hispanic buying power exceeded $1 trillion in 2010.

  • By 2015 it is forecast the buying power of the Latino population will reach $1.3 trillion.

  • In Colorado, Latino’s purchasing power totaled $21.9 billion, an increase of 456.8% since 1990.

  • It is estimated that 21.5 million Latino citizen adults will be eligible to vote in November 2012.

  • More than 14 million Hispanic registered voters are expected by 2012. 2 million more Hispanics register voters than 2008.

  • 40% of new voters in the 2008 election were of Hispanic origin.

  • 13.4% of Latinos eligible to vote but not registered in the state of Colorado.

  • 219,233 Hispanic registered voters in Colorado.

  • According to the U.S. Census, there are 1.6 million Hispanic-owned businesses in the nation.  They employ another 1.5 million people and boast some $220 billion in annual gross receipts.

  • The number of Hispanic-owned businesses in the U.S. is expected to grow 41.8% in the next six years to 4.3 million, with total revenues surging 39% to more than $539 billion.
